Wareham set for Friday night matchup against Cotuit

After a huge Thursday night win over the Falmouth Commodores, the Gatemen are back at Spillane Field to take on the Cotuit Kettleers.

The series sits at 1-3-0 in favor of Cotuit. Wareham, however, hopes to take the positive momentum from their win into the Friday night matchup.

Wareham holds last place in the West Division, but is only eight points behind the fourth-place Commodores and that final playoff spot. The Ketts sit atop the West, and the league, with a record of 22-10-1.

Cotuit comes into the night having not won a game since July 15th against Yarmouth-Dennis, and the Gatemen hope they will be the next team to defeat the Kettleers and keep Cotuit from gaining more points.

In the two teams’ last meeting, Wareham was shut out for the first time this season when Cotuit put up a whopping 18 runs on the Gatemen pitching staff.

Jonathan Bautista will make his fourth start on the mound for Wareham and avenge the loss previously dealt to the Gatemen in the last matchup against Cotuit. The righty recently announced his transfer from Pittsburgh to the University of Central Florida after returning the the Gatemen after his stint with the Valley Blue Sox in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. In his last outing on July 15 against the Orleans Firebirds, Bautista tossed 5.1 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. He struck out four batters and only walked one.

The Gatemen Baseball Network will have all the action live from Spillane Field with pregame coverage beginning at 5:40 before the 6 o’clock first pitch.
