It would have been nice to repeat as CCBL champions. It would have been nice to make it past round 1 of the playoffs. But is that really what the CCBL is all about? College baseball players come from all over the country not to win silverware, but to improve on and off the field.

Wareham suffered worst loss of the season at the worst possible time. After an emotional game 1 victory it looked as though all of the momentum was with the Gatemen. However, the train fell off the rails rather fast in game 2.

In one of the wildest baseball games you will ever watch the Gatemen scored six runs in the first inning and the Kettleers scored six runs in the fourth inning. The Gatemen came out victorious in an 8-7 ball game.

The Gatemen put the Commodores in their rear view mirror in the first inning and didn’t look back. Matt McLain (UCLA) roped a double off the left field wall and Pete Derkay (Tennessee) sent him home on a single. Adrian Del Castillo sent home two more runs getting all of a ball left up in the zone hitting his team leading fifth home run of the summer.

The Bourne Braves had no answer for Cole Larsen (Kansas) through the first 3 innings. After a lead-off single in the first inning Larsen sent down the next 8 batters he faced in order. Larsen had some help from his defense as 3 double plays were completed through the first 4 innings.

The Gatemen offense picked up right where it left off from last night. Braiden Ward (Washington) advanced to 1ston an error and did what he did best stealing 2ndbase. Jacob Teter (Florida Southern) sent Ward home on a double into deep left.

“My fastball command was on tonight. Once I got that first out and struck out the second guy, I faced I got into a rhythm on the mound” Murray said. “I was of course a little nervous out there but like I said after the first out I felt like I was immediately locked in.”

The Gatemen offense coming into the game only had 5 runs in the past 3 games. Wareham has thrived on good offensive play all season but were in its worst offensive stretch. Last night the offense came alive and the Gatemen snapped a 2-game losing streak.

The Gatemen had a chance to do damage in the first inning but stranded runners on the corners. Braiden Ward (Washington) got on with a walk, Jacob Teter (Florida Southern) hit a single and two fielder’s choices put runners on 1stand 3rd. Dallas Beaver (South Carolina) flew out to end the inning.
