Spillane Field will host its last game of the 2023 season in a matchup featuring the Wareham Gatemen and the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
The Gatemen are on a two game losing streak and are 3-7 in their last 10 going into tonight’s game. Wareham will look to knock off the Red Sox and end their season in the win column.
Yarmouth-Dennis comes into the final regular season looking to clinch the East division top seed.
These two teams have spent a bit of time apart, with their last meeting coming on July 8. The game was called in the seventh inning due to heavy fog rolling in, but Wareham wasn’t too upset with the early ending as they had fallen victim to a Red Sox six-spot in the bottom of the inning. Yarmouth-Dennis went on to win the game 12-2.
Bryson Shaffer (Coastal Carolina) will make his first start on the mound for the Gatemen in the season finale. The sidearm pitcher has tossed 23 innings for Wareham, all in relief. In his 12 appearances, Shaffer owns a 6.26 ERA and is tied for the team high for strikeouts with 27. In his last outing, Shaffer got the win after working two innings in relief against the Cotuit Kettleers. He gave up just one run on three hits and struck out two of the 10 batters he faced.
The Gatemen Baseball Network on YouTube will broadcast all the action at Spillane Field for the final time this season with pregame coverage beginning at 5:40 before the 6 p.m. first pitch.
