Wareham back at home to face Brewster Whitecaps

The Gatemen are back at Spillane Field Monday night to face off against the Brewster Whitecaps. In the first meeting where manager Ryan Smyth faced off against his old team, a win wasn’t the only thing on the table. The other big prize for the winner: bragging rights. Smyth served as an assistant coach for Brewster under his mentor Jamie Shevchik from 2016-2022.

While both teams played hard, the game concluded with a 4-4 tie thanks to some late game heroics from David Glancy (Notre Dame transfer) and his two run blast in the top of the eighth.

The only other tie for Wareham this season came in an unusual ending Sunday night against the Harbor Hawks, when the game ended early due to fog.

Smyth’s team looks to keep their foot on the gas as they take on the Whitecaps. Coleman Picard (Bryant) will make his third start on the mound for the Gatemen. In his first two outings, Picard has pitched a total of nine innings and holds a 2.00 ERA.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. with pregame coverage on the Gatemen Baseball Network starting at 5:40.
