Gatemen Win Over Falmouth for the First Time this Season

The Gatemen finally were able to pull out a win against the Falmouth Commodores Tuesday night as Spillane Field. Wareham and Falmouth had faced off twice before in 2022, both of which ended in a loss for the Gatemen. Tonight, however, the Gatemen finished 6-4 over the Commodores.

Colby Halter (Florida) came out with an RBI single in the 1st inning to bring in Falmouth’s leadoff hitter Alex Mooney (Duke). In the top of the 2nd, they added onto their lead after a base hit by Jacob Cozart (North Carolina State) and an RBI double by Cross Factor (Oklahoma City).

The Gatemen scored their first run of the night after Blake Wright (Clemson) walked and Kellum Clark (Mississippi St) was hit by a pitch to put men on first and second. Ty Evans (Florida) came up clutch throughout most of the game, and hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning.

No more runs would score until the 6th when Alan Roden (Creighton) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Wright would have a base hit, followed by an RBI single to drive in Roden. Ty Evans came through for Wareham again tonight with a three-run shot to deep left field to give the Gatemen their first lead of the game. That wasn’t all for the Gatemen, as they would score one more run after a couple throwing errors on the Commodores and a sacrifice fly from Hogan Windish (UNC Greensboro).

The Commodores would begin to rally in the 8th on two walks and a base hit to start off the inning. Cozart came up again for Falmouth with a two RBI single to make it 6-4. The team fell short in the end, and the Gatemen sent the Commodores home with a loss.

Starting pitcher Matt Jachec had struck out five and had no walks in his five innings of work.

Tomorrow the Gatemen will host the Brewster Whitecaps with another 6:00pm first pitch at Spillane Field.
