Gatemen return to Falmouth for rematch against the Commodores

The Gatemen are traveling back to Falmouth Wednesday after the original matchup was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

The difference: a revamped Gatemen roster.

Since the two teams originally met on opening day, manager Ryan Smyth has made a flurry of roster transactions, including activating 10 new players after Tuesday night’s loss to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks.

The Opening Day contest featured a high powered slugfest led by David Glancy (Notre Dame transfer). Glancy had three RBI off the team’s first home run of the season, and was also aggressive on the base paths with two stolen bases.

This time around, Jonathan Bautista will get the start on the mound for the Gatemen. In his last appearance, Bautista got the win in a shortened game against the Orleans Firebirds. The righty threw four innings and allowed two runs on three hits.

Bautista has been waiting for this matchup, after he had his “money prediction” with Glancy’s game tying home run versus the Brewster Whitecaps. Now, he just hopes Glancy can bring that momentum back into today’s game.

“When I throw Wednesday, I’m hoping to see another home run like that, but not to tie it, but to actually take the lead,” Bautista said.

Fans can catch the game on the Gatemen Gamecast Broadcast with pregame coverage set to start at 5:45 before the 6 p.m. first pitch.
