The Gatemen are back on the road for a big end-of-the-week travel schedule. The first stop for Wareham is Whitehouse Field, home of the Harwich Mariners.

Both the Gatemen and the Mariners currently sit in second place in their respective divisions with 18 points.

When the two teams met at Spillane Field on June 13, Wareham crushed Harwich 12-1 on their way to their second win of the season. Manager Ryan Smyth said things are different for everyone compared to the beginning of the season.

“We caught them early,” Smyth said. “All the teams out here, the rosters are different at this point. I’m sure they’re a different ball team. We’re just going in, we’re playing really good baseball and we’re gonna play our game.”

The Gatemen sit at 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. Outfielder Nick McLain (Arizona State) said the team is ready to keep playing hard in all aspects of the game.

“We’re just competing, stringing along good ABs, playing good defense, pitching the ball well and having this thing keep rolling,” McLain said.

Clemson Tiger Casey Tallent will make his second start on the mound for the Gatemen. In his first outing against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Tallent threw for four innings and only allowed one run and struck out three batters. Tallent owns the second lowest ERA in the active roster at 2.25.

Fans can tune in to the Gatemen Gamecast on YouTube at 6 p.m. for the pregame coverage prior to the 6:30 first pitch.
