Gatemen Pickup Second Consecutive Win of the Season in Brewster

The Gatemen picked up their second win in a row tonight against the Whitecaps at Stony Brook Field in Brewster. This game had all the action you could want – quality pitching, an explosive offense with batters getting deep in counts, laying off pitches outside the zone. Of course, you can’t forget the home runs!

The game began slowly with no score for either team until the 5th inning. First baseman Torin Montgomery (Missouri) hit a solo shot to deep centerfield. This was the first home run by any member of the Wareham Gatemen in 2022. Montgomery went 3 for 5 on the night with two base hits in addition to the homer.

The 5th inning had men getting on base in every way imaginable. After Montgomery’s home run, there would be a base hit and a walk, followed by Hogan Windish (North Carolina Greensboro) getting hit by a pitch. However, the inning would end with only one run, scored by Montgomery, and the Gatemen would leave the bases loaded. Wareham would repeat this again in the 6th inning, and would leave 10 men on base in total. The Whitecaps answered with their own home run the next inning, which would be their only score of the night.

The Gatemen outhit Brewster 9-3 and took over half a dozen walks in the ball game. Wareham’s pitching was outstanding as per usual, for a combined 13 strikeouts for the night. The Gatemen went up 4-1 in the 8th where Windish, Montgomery and Jack Housinger (Xavier) each picked up an RBI on two singles and a double.

The Wareham Gatemen return home to Spillane Field to meet the Falmouth Commodores for the first time this season tomorrow. First pitch is at 6:00pm.
