Gatemen look to snap three game skid against Chatham Anglers

The Gatemen return to Spillane Field hoping to snap their three game losing streak Friday night. Wareham hasn’t won a game since they came back and won in walk off style against the Bourne Braves June 18, but they’re looking to change that today when they face the Chatham Anglers.

The Anglers currently sit at 3-6-1, with one of those wins coming from their matchup with Wareham. Last time when the two teams met at Veterans Field, the Gatemen had only six hits on the day while Chatham had double that, leading to a final score of 7-4.

In Thursday night’s 6-5 loss to the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Josh Stevenson (LSU) went 4-4 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI. Stevenson recognizes the difficulty of the Cape League, but knows his team has it in them to get the wins they need.

“It’s the best teams in the country,” Stevenson said. “Every little thing counts and if we clean up a few things, I think we’ll be on our way.”

Manager Ryan Smyth has Brett Wichrowski (Bryant) set to start on the mound for Wareham. This will be Wichrowski’s first start after already having two outings from the bullpen. He holds a 2.46 ERA in 3.2 innings pitched and has allowed three hits.

The Friday night matchup is set to start at 6 p.m. with pregame coverage on the Gatemen Baseball Network beginning at 5:45.
