Gatemen Look to Pick Up First Road Win of Season

The Wareham Gatemen will travel to Orleans to take on the Firebirds tonight at 6:30 pm at Eldredge Park. Wareham will look to get back into the win column after tying last night’s game 2-2 versus the Bourne Braves.

Probable pitchers for the contest are Matt Jachec (Indiana State) for the Gatemen and Alex Amalfi (UMass Boston) for the Firebirds.

Jachec had a stellar season in 2022 with Indiana State across 14 starts. He logged a team high 97 innings and sported an impressive 2.88 ERA. Jahec walked just nine batters in 2022 and will look to continue on this trend by getting ahead of the Orleans batters early in counts.

Amalfi was great for UMass Boston across the collegiate season going 8-4 in 12 appearances on the mound. The UMass product struck out 101 batters in just 56.2 innings pitched. It will be interesting to see if he is able to continue this success and manipulate the Gatemen hitters with his pitch arsenal.

Wareham hitters have been struggling at the plate early in the Cape Cod Baseball League season and will look to get on the right track tonight. The Gatemen have just seven hits across two games, batting .125 as a team.

The Gatemen will look to advance to 2-0-1 while the Firebirds look to get their first win of the season. For complete game notes, click here
