Cotuit offense had no answers for Ian Bedell and Trent Palmer in 1-0 Gatemen win

WAREHAM- After an 11-3 defeat last night Wareham enacted some revenge dishing out a 1-0 pitching battle win holding on to the top spot in the Western Division
Ian Bedell (Missouri) was the starter for the Wareham Gatemen tonight. Coming into the game Bedell had been one of the most impressive pitchers in the CCBL. Bedell was 1-0 in 9.2 innings pitched not allowing a run and only 6 hits striking out 9 batters.
You could see immediately why Bedell had those numbers retiring the first 7 batters he faced. Wareham had a chance to provide some run support in the 3rdinning but Benjamin Sems (Kansas) was tagged out at home.
Neither team did much offensively in the 4thand 5thinning and Trent Palmer (Jacksonville) relieved Bedell in the 6thinning. Bedell’s final line was 5 scoreless innings only allowing 1 run on 1 hit striking out 4 Kettleer batters.
“I felt really in control and I felt like we did a good job of keeping hitters off balance” Bedell said. “Jerry had a good talk with us about battling back so it was a really ugly first part of the game but I think after the 2ndinning we played more like ourselves.”
Two men got on base in the 6thinning on Palmer but a beautiful double play by Sems ended the inning. The Wareham offense provided Palmer some run support in the 7thinning. Jacob Teter (Florida Southern), Adrian Del Castillo (Miami), and Matt McLain (UCLA) all got on loading the bases with no outs. Sems sent home Teter on a sac-fly making the score 1-0. Dallas Beaver (UCF) lined in to a double play to end the inning.
1 run proved to be all Palmer would need as he breezed through the 8thand 9thinning. A lot of credit has to go to the Gatemen defense as every player understood their role and each player did their job when called upon.
“When the defense is playing well you feel like you can just throw anything in the zone and they are going to make plays” Bedell said. “I am having a lot of fun playing for this team. We have a great group of players and when you are in the dugout or bullpen guys are joking around so we are doing good at keeping it loose and having a good time.”
With this win the Wareham Gatemen improved to 9-6-1 on the season while the Cotuit Kettleers fell to 7-7-2. Wareham now has a 2-point advantage over the Cotuit Kettleers in the Western Division race. The Gatemen travel to Bourne tomorrow night to play the (5-9) Braves at 6:00 p.m.
