Wareham and Cotuit faced each other tonight at Spillane for a very important meeting of the season.

Both offenses started slowly, but took off for both teams as the evening went on.

Carter Trice (NC St) came through first with a solo shot to bring across the first run of the ballgame in the 2nd.

Both sides pitched 1-2-3 innings, but the quiet offense didn’t last long.

The 4th inning saw some more action on both sides. It began with another run for Cotuit. Two singles lead off the visitor half of the inning, and runners advanced on ground outs. One runner would eventually come home, giving the Kettleers a 2-0 lead.

Three runs came across the plate as almost the entire Gatemen batting order hit in the inning. Four base hits, a walk and some groundouts made for a lively inning that brought Wareham to a 3-2 lead.

Wareham continued to extend its lead throughout the night, having another three-run inning in the 5th. Will Rogers (Arizona St) roped an RBI-single to bring in one run, and Owen Diodati (Oregon) took a walk to load the baes. Devin Burkes (Kentucky) hit a two-RBI single to bring the Gatemen a four-run lead.

The night quickly became a battle between pitching staffs, and no more runners would come across the plate for either team, despite a few base hits and a triple off the center field wall by Owen Diodati.

The Gatemen pulled out the win 6-2 over Cotuit. They will have a rematch tomorrow, this time in Cotuit. Unfortunately for Wareham, hopes of making the CCBL playoffs left on the bus with the Kettleers.
