Wareham Falls to Hyannis 8-4


The Hyannis Harbor Hawks defeated the Wareham Gatemen 8-4 on Friday, June 24th. Hyannis gets to .500 on the season while Warham falls to 4-6-1.

Wareham got off to a hot start in the top of the first plating three runs in Hyannis. Jack Housinger (Xavier) led off the game with a single before he advanced to second on a Hogan Windish (UNC Greensboro) moved him over to second with a single of his own. Max Anderson (Nebraska) loaded the bases with another single. Alan Roden (Creighton) laced an RBI single that scored Housinger. Blake Wright (Clemson) then grounded into a double play that scored a run. Ian Farrow (Miami) then roped an RBI single to score the third Gatemen run of the inning. 

Hyannis retaliated with a two-run bottom of the first of their own. Justin Janas (Illinois) and Cole McConnell each contributed an RBI for Hyannis. 

Wareham tacked on their fourth and final run of the game in the top half of the 2nd inning. Peter Burns (Boston College) led the inning off with a single. Housinger moved Burns over to second with an infield single. Windish then laced a single to center to score Burns and put the Gatemen up 4-2.

Hyannis took the lead in the bottom of the 4th after scoring three runs in two innings. McConnell hit a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning to put Hyannis down one. In the fourth, two more runs were scored on RBIs from Dominic Pitelli (Miami) and Rikuu Nishida (Oregon) to put Hyannis up 5-4. 

The Harbor Hawks put things out of reach in the 5th. This three-run rally was powered by a Philip Matulia (Louisiana Tech) two-run home run putting Hyannis up 8-4.

The loss puts Wareham at 4-6-1 and Hyannis at 5-5-1. The Gatemen play their next game in Falmouth on Saturday, June 25th as they look to get back in the win column.
