Wareham Falls 4-3 at Polar Park

The Wareham Gatemen hosted the Bourne Braves at Polar Park in Worcester on Monday, July 25th. The two teams traveled to the beautiful ballpark for a special Cape Cod League baseball game that saw a 4-3 win for the Bourne Braves.

The Braves got on the board first, plating a run in the top of the 1st. Mac Horvath (North Carolina) drew a walk and stole second to get into scoring position. Evan Sleight (Rutgers) then ripped an RBI single up the middle to make it 1-0.

Bourne tacked on to their lead in the 3rd with the help of a three bagger. Tomas Frick (North Carolina) led off the inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The top of the 4th inning saw Bourne score yet another run. Sleight led off the inning with a single and was moved over to third on a double by Christopher Brito (Rutgers). John Peck (Pepperdine) grounded into an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 3-0.

Wareham started to fight back in the bottom half of the 4th. Owen Diodati (Oregon) singled and advanced all the way over to third on two straight wild pitches. He then scored on a Blake Wright (Clemson) RBI single to make it 3-1.

The Gatemen then tied things up in the bottom of the 7th inning. Carter Graham (Stanford) led the inning off on a single and advanced to second on a Deric Fabian (Florida) hit by pitch. William Rogers (Arizona St.) laced a two RBI double that came off the bat at 105 miles per hour to tie things at 3-3.

Bourne responded and took the lead in the top half of the 8th inning. Brito led the inning off with a double off of the left field wall. He moved over to third on a bunt and scored on a Ryan Enos (East Tennessee St.) RBI single to make it 4-3.

Wareham falls to 11-20-6 and a playoff appearance feels impossible at this point. The Gatemen will be back in action on Tuesday, July 26th at Spillane Field when they host the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox.
