Wareham’s pitching staff got back on track on Friday, but the Gatemen was unable to follow suit.
The Gatemen’s trio of arms comprised of Mason Feole, Dalton Roach, and Brett Conine combined to allow just two runs to a potent Commodores lineup but it proved not to be enough as Wareham fell to Falmouth, 2-1, at Guv Fuller Field.
The loss is Wareham’s sixth straight and it drops them to five games below .500 for the first time this season.
In his first appearance July 20th, Conine worked two spotless innings striking out four Commodore hitters. The Cal State Fullerton closer mixed in a changeup that sat between 81-82 miles per hour to go with a crisp fastball and sharp curveball to cruise through his two innings of work.

His efforts kept Wareham within a run, but the Gatemen were unable to muster any sort of threat in the final two innings securing the win for Falmouth.
Gatemen coach Don Sneddon said the Gatemen failed to seize any potential momentum.
“Pitching kept us in the game but we hit into some untimely double plays,” said Sneddon. “Even when we looked like we were going to get a productive out it ended up being too shallow to score a run. We’re just looking for one to go our way to break out of this thing.”
Offensively, Wareham compiled 8 hits on the evening including multi-hit games out of John Toppa, Blake Sabol, and Robbie Metz.
As has become somewhat of modus operandi, the Gatemen struggled with men on base all game long. They left seven men on through the first six innings and went 0-for-3 with men in scoring position. Additionally, Wareham grounded into a pair of double plays and was unable to score with the bases loaded and one out in the third.
Sabol put the Gatemen in front in the top of the second as the University of Southern California product launched a solo shot to dead center field to give Wareham a 1-0 lead. The home run was Sabol’s third of the season.
Mason Feole got the start for Wareham and was impressive over four innings.
Feole dodged a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the first, retiring Marty Bechina via the curveball to squeak out unscathed.
After retiring seven straight, Feole (4 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K) once again ran into trouble in the fourth. A one out bunt single by Logan Davidson, an infield single by Adley Rutschman and a walk loaded the bases with two men down.
Just as he did in the opening frame, Feole dialed it up and retired Hunter Steinmetz on a high fastball to finish his start unblemished.
Dalton Roach relieved Feole to begin the bottom of the fifth, and the Commodores greeted him with a pair of runs.
Clayton Daniel singled up the middle, and with one out Trevor Larnach drilled a double off the wall in left. Daniel got waved around, and the relay from Nate Fassnacht looked like it was going to be in plenty of time.
The Commodores leadoff hitter in Daniel, however, eluded Willie MacIver’s tag and slid in safely to even the game at one.
Moments later, Ignacius Janca put Falmouth in front with an RBI single up the middle.
“In that inning Roche just struggled to get his curveball over and he has to have that,” said Sneddon. “When you don’t throw overly hard you have to be able to locate your secondary stuff and he just didn’t have that consistently tonight.”
Wareham had a chance to respond one half inning later, but Nick Angelini grounded out with the bases loaded to end the threat.
Next Up: The Gatemen host Orleans for the final time this season. First pitch from Spillane Field is scheduled for 630pm.
