Gatemen Suffer Devastating Loss at Home

The Gatemen suffered another miserable loss tonight at home in their final meeting with the Chatham Anglers. Wareham fell 11-2 in an almost three and a half hour game in the summer heat. While the Gatemen would actually only be outhit 9-8, Chatham capitalized on three throwing errors by the Wareham defense early on. Despite sitting last in the East Division, Chatham made light work of its Western competition and secured a win handily.

The Anglers got to work in the 2nd inning with Chuck Ingram’s (Wichita St) RBI double to drive in Marcus Brown (Oklahoma St) who reached base on an error.

In the 2nd, the Gatemen were able to get some base runners on walks and had the tying run in scoring position, but Devin Burkes (Kentucky) fanned to strand two base runners.

The Anglers scored two more runs on another error in the 3rd inning, making the first three runs Chatham scored all unearned.

Chatham would score in all but two frames the entire night, as opposed to the Gatemen who only scored two runs in the 8th on a couple of base hits and two hit batsmen.

The Gatemen would leave nine base runners stranded throughout the night, and would end their 2022 season against Chatham without winning a single matchup. With the fielding and pitching struggling to keep their heads above water, tomorrow is a must-win for Wareham.

The Gatemen will take on Bourne, another team they have yet to win against this summer, tying with the Bravos three times with final scores of 2-2 each time. First pitch will be at 7:00pm at Doran Park in Bourne.
