Gatemen Look to Take Down Defending Champs

The Wareham Gatemen travel to Stony Brook Field tonight to take on the defending champion Brewster Whitecaps. Brewster is looking for their fourth straight win while Wareham is looking to go on a winning streak of their own after an offensive explosion last night in Hyannis.

Friday’s probable starter for the Gatemen is Jason Woodward (Florida Gulf Coast). Woodward impressed in the 2022 collegiate season posting a 4.11 ERA across 76.2 innings pitched. He totaled 82 strikeouts in his 15 starts for the Eagles.

Brewster’s probable starter for the contest is Jackson Nezuh (Florida State). Nezuh had 14 appearances with the Seminoles and threw just 15.1 innings. His 8.22 ERA and 12 walks in limited innings should be a welcome sight for a Wareham offense who posted 11 runs in their last win.

Kellum Clark (Mississippi State) and Ian Farrow (Miami) both had three RBIs in the 11-5 win over Hyannis. Blake Wright (Clemson) chipped in two RBIs of his own and the Gatemen offense took ten total free passes. Clark’s three doubles helped propel Wareham to their best offensive output of the season.

The Wareham bats look to stay hot as they try to improve to 3-1-1 against a Whitecaps team who is rolling early in the season. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00pm. For complete game notes click here
