YARMOUTH- Wareham has complete performance only allowing 4 hits and had 13 hits in 13-2 win over the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox
Braiden Ward (Washington) got on base getting hit by a pitch and then Matt McLain (UCLA) sent him home on an RBI triple. Adrian Del Castillo (Miami) sent home Wareham’s second run on an RBI double.
Matt Rudick (San Diego State) came into this game with the lowest batting average on the team, but he got all of a fastball launching a solo shot making the score 3-0. Jack Leftwich (Florida) struggled with his control through his first 2 innings.
“I felt comfortable today and I made some adjustments with our hitting coaches” Rudick said. “This performance helps build my confidence tremendously and that’s what baseball is you can’t play amazing all of the time so you have to stick with it.”
Leftwitch struggled again in the 3rdinning as Chad Stevens made it 6-0 sending home 2 runs on an RBI single. The 6 runs made Coy Cobb’s (Texas) life easy on the mound. Cobb’s final line was 3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 SS. Cobb was a starting pitcher for Texas this season but after being used as a relief pitcher to start the Gatemen season Cobb felt good to be back on the bump in a start.
Trey Dillard (Missouri) relieved Cobb in the 4thinning and was phenomenal. Dillard’s final line was 3 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO. In the 7thinning the Gatemen added an insurance run as Dallas Beaver (South Carolina) hit an RBI double making the score 7-0.
Jeremey Williams (Nova Southeastern) came into the game in the 7thinning in a tight jam. With a runner on 1stand 2ndand no outs Williams was tasked with getting out of the inning. Williams couldn’t escape as he walked hit Noah Cardenas and hit Erick Tolman scoring a run. A sacrifice ground out by Wyatt Young scored another run making it 7-2.
The 8thinning was a crazy one for the Gatemen. A run scored on a wild pitch making the score 8-2, Jacob Teter 9-2 made the score on a sacrifice fly, and a fielder’s choice made the score 10-2. Only 2 of these runs were earned because of errors.
Adding insult to injury in the 9thinning, Rudick hit his 2ndhome run of the night. This home run was a 2-run bomb and sealed the score of 13-2. Cobb was awarded the win and Williams earned the save with a final line of 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO.
“I can’t take that 2 home runs and let it get to me I need to keep moving forward and continue to play my game” Rudick said. “We scored early and put pressure on them and it made our pitchers more relaxed and turned into a really good win for the squad.”
The Gatemen improved to 13-11-1 on the season while the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox are now 14-9-1 this season. The Cotuit Kettleers lost to the Bourne Braves 6-4 so once again the Gatemen have leapfrogged the Kettleers into first place in the West Division. The Red Sox now sit in 2ndplace in the East Division. The Gatemen are back in action tonight at 7:00 p.m. in Chatham.
