The Gatemen (7-12-4 entering tonight) were back on the road tonight to take on the Chatham Anglers (9-12-3 entering tonight) at Veteran’s Field. Mack Anglin (Clemson) got the start for Wareham, pitching 4 innings with 1 run (0 earned runs) and 4 strikeouts. Celebrating his birthday, Jimmy Crooks (Oklahoma) scored after drawing a walk in the second inning. A 2-run home run from LF Owen Diodati (Alabama) that also scored McClain (Arizona State) gave the Gatemen a 4-0 lead in the second.

The only scoring of the night for the Anglers came in the bottom of the third when DH David Mendham (South Carolina) cut the Gatemen lead to 4-1 after he walked to start the bottom of the third. Gatemen leadoff hitter Tres Gonzalez (Georgia Tech) scored after drawing a walk to lead off the 5th inning giving the Gatemen a 4 run lead and the score remained at 5-1 until the top of the ninth inning.

Following Anglin on the mound for Wareham was Cole Kirschsieper (University of Illinois) who also pitched 4 innings, giving up 0 runs and finishing with 9 strikeouts. The Gatemen added three more runs in the top of the ninth as Tommy Troy (Stanford), Jimmy Crooks, and Kade Kern (Ohio State) all scored, giving Wareham an 8-1 lead. Right-hander Jack Noble (Long Beach State) came to the mound in the bottom of the ninth and closed things out for the Gatemen.

After a big night offensively and another excellent night on the mound, the Gatemen snapped a 6-game losing streak and are 8-12-4 entering tomorrow night’s game at McKeon Park against the 4-19 Hyannis Harbor Hawks who beat the Orleans Firebirds 13-1 tonight. Happy Birthday, Jimmy Crooks!
