Braiden Ward (Washington) opened the game getting on base with an infield single. From there Ward did what he does best stealing 2ndbase and advancing to 3rdon a wild throw to 2nd.  Team RBI leader Jacob Teter (Florida Southern) collected his 23rdof the season sending home Ward on a hard single to center giving the Gatemen a 1-0 lead. Franco Aleman (Florida International) came into the game with a perfect 0.00 ERA but Teter spoiled that.
Ward got the best of Aleman once again in the 3rdinning getting on base off a ball hit right to him and he committed an error trying to throw him out. Ward snagged his second bag of the night stealing 2ndbut Aleman enacted revenge catching Ward in a pickle.
It would have been nice if Ward was still on base because Teter hit his 2ndsingle right after Ward was thrown out. This was Teter’s 12thmulti-hit game of the season. 0
Brandon Pfaadt (Bellarmine) relieved Prater in the 3rdinning. Prater had a nice outing finishing with a line of 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO. Pfaadt settled into the game fast sending down the Commodores 1-2-3 in the 3rdinning.
After the 1stinning Aleman lived up to his reputation only allowing 1 hit between the 2ndand 5thinning. Pfaadt was just as dominant only allowing 1 runner on base in 3 innings on a dropped 3rdstrike.
Brant Brown (Eckerd College) relieved Aleman in the 6thinning. Aleman was electric posting a final line of 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO. Brown threw a 3 perfect innings in relief. Only 2 runners reached base between the 3rdin 8thinning.
The Commodores snapped the combined no hitter in the 8thinning. Austin Langworthy hit single into right. A failed pick-off attempt advanced Langworthy to 2ndbase. Jason Ruffcorn (Oklahoma) relieved Pfaadt. Pfaadt’s final line was 5.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 SO. Langworthy was advanced to 3rdon a fielder’s choice and Masel sent him home on a sacrifice-fly.
“Obviously I am disspointed for the team that the no-hitter was lost but I am satisfied overall with how I played” Pfaadt said. “My changeup to lefties and my off-speed pitches to righties is really where I found a lot of my success tonight.”
From there 3 straight walks scored a run making the score 2-1. The 3rdwalk ended Ruffcorn’s night with Tanner Bibbee (Cal State Fullerton) taking over in relief. Zach Brzykcy (Virginia Tech) came in to close the game out in the 9thinning. Brzykcy did just that striking out the side to clinch the win.
“There are some dogs over there and the team chemistry is insane for Falmouth” Pfaadt said. “Just listening to their infielders talk to each other they are a good team and will be very hard to beat in the playoffs.”
Ruffcorn earned the loss, Brown was awarded the win, and Bryzycky earned the save. Ruffcorn now is 0-2 with a 11.57 ERA in just. 2.1 innings of work. Brown is 1-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA in 4 innings of work. Bryzycky earned his 6thsave of the season posting a 2.00 ERA in 9 innings pitched.
The Falmouth Commodores improved to 20-12-1 on the season and take complete control of 1stplace in the West Division. The Commodores are back in action tonight on the road against the Orleans Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. The Wareham have an off day then are back in action Thursday night in Cotuit at 5:00 p.m.
