Cotuit and Wareham Tie 1-1

By Barrett Hodgson

An important inter division game took place Sunday, July 25th at Spillane Field between the visiting Cotuit Kettleers and Wareham Gatemen. Cotuit came into the game with a .444 winning percentage which was good for 3rd place in the west division. The Gatemen entered with a .429 winning percentage putting them in fourth. The teams both needed a win and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Gatemen got the scoring started in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Devereaux Harrison (Cal State Long Beach) started the inning with a leadoff walk. Jim Jarvis (Alabama) followed with another walk to put runners on 1st and 2nd. The Cotuit starter Dalton Rogers (Southern Mississippi) then balked to advance the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Tommy Troy (Stanford) stepped in and delivered a sacrifice fly to right that gave Wareham a 1-0 lead.

Wareham’s starter Mack Anglin (Clemson) was dominant in his four innings of work. Anglin gave up no runs and just two hits while keeping the Kettleers guessing all night. He walked just one while striking out six batters.

Cotuit finally got on the board during the top of the 7th inning. Luke Gold (Boston College) absolutely crushed a solo home run over the left field concession stand. The blast tied the game 1-1 and no more runs were scored the rest of the night.

The Gatemen will look to win a big game Monday, July 26th at Red Wilson Field against the Y-D Red Sox.
