Wareham Ties Orleans 1-1

The Orleans Firebirds traveled to Spillane Field on Sunday, July 17th to take on the Wareham Gatemen. The game did not feature much offense as it ended in a 1-1 tie.

Wareham took an early lead in the 4th inning scoring a run. Hogan Windish (UNC Greensboro) drew a walk and advanced to third on a single by Owen Diodati (Oregon). Windish then scored on an RBI sacrifice fly off the bat of Max Anderson (Nebraska) to make it 1-0.

Orleans tied things up in the top half of the 6th inning. Isaac Humphrey (Louisville) led the inning off with a double in the gap and moved over to third on a fielder’s choice. JD Urso (Tampa) hit into an RBI fielder’s choice to score Humphrey and tie things up 1-1.

Michael Sansone (Fairfield) showed why he was named to the Cape Cod League all-star team going five strong innings. He struck out four batters and gave up just one run while commanding the strike zone extremely well.

The Gatemen do gain a point in the standings as their record goes to 11-15-6. They will be back in action on Tuesday, July 19th at Doran Park as they take on the Bourne Braves.
