Youth Instruction

The Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League, the premier summer collegiate league, are offering a Baseball Instruction Program and Advanced Clinics. Boys and girls, from beginner to advanced, from all communities are welcome. All sessions are held Monday - Friday. Participants must bring their own gloves and water. All other equipment will be provided. Sessions on rainy days are held at the discretion of the coaches.

The Wareham Gatemen Baseball organization will once again be offering their very popular summer baseball clinics for area youth, co-sponsored this year by Gateway Graphics and Marion Chiropractic.

Taking the helm at the clinics for 2009 is Matt Ponte, former Asst Coach at Roger Williams University and now Pitching Coach for the Bryant University Bulldogs; Ponte was the 2001 Standard-Times Basketball, Baseball and Athlete of the Year. Ponte had a distinguished pitching career at Wheaton College where the team went to NCAA Regional play in 2002, 2003 and 2005. Ponte finished his career with a 20-9 record and 3.63 ERA in 238 innings pitched.

Joining Matt this year will be former major leaguer Bill Selby, currently the Hitting Coach for the Northwest University baseball program. Fans may remember Selby being drafted in the 13^th round by the Red Sox in 1992. Selby spent 5 years with the Boston organization before being released to play in Japan for the Yokohama Bay Stars. Selby is a 14-year veteran of pro baseball, playing not only for Boston, but the Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. In 2005 Selby wrapped up his pro career being named to the Mexican League All-Star Team while playing for the Campeche Pirates, batting .318 with 25 HR and 93 RBI.

Assisting our clinics as always will be Gatemen Head Coach Cooper Farris and many of the players from the 2009 Gatemen Roster.

There will be three sessions this year ---- June 22 through July 5, July 6-July 17 (no clinic on July 9) and July 20-July 31(no clinic on July 30). Instructional Clinics (ages 4-9) will be $50 per week with 4-5 year olds from 9 am to 10 am and 6-9 year olds from 10 am to 11 am. Advanced Clinics (ages 8-12) will be $120 per week. And Specialty Clinics for ages 13 and up remain $100 for two days with an expanded time of 9 am to noon.

There is a 10% discount for families which applies to all clinics.
