Whitecaps Snap Winning Streak Behind Pitching of Evan Bronson

07/07/08 – Whitecaps Snap Winning Streak Behind Pitching of Evan Bronson
Evan Bronson (Trinity) shutdown the Gatemen offense for the second time this season – the first time as a member of the YD Red Sox – as the Brewster Whitecaps defeated the Wareham Gatemen 4-2 tonight at Spillane Field. The loss snaps a three game winning streak for the Gatemen and drops them to 7-12-1. Bronson pitched 6 innings, did not allow a run and struck out 9; at one time sitting down 13 batters in a row.

Wareham’s starter Dallas Keuchel (Arkansas) also went 6 innings but allowed 3 runs. The Gatemen did not produce any offense until Bronson was lifted and the end of the sixth. Wareham immediately got to the Whitecaps bullpen by scoring a run in the 7th off of a pinch hit, rbi single by Aaron Baker (Oklahoma). The Gatemen would get within one run in the 8th when Raynor Cambell (Baylor) and Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge) each singled to lead off the inning. A Blake Dean (LSU) sacrafice fly would plate Cambell to make the score 3-2. A Connor Rowe (Texas) single to center field looked to tie the game but a perfect throw by Brewster CF David DiNatale (Miami) would gun down Pineda at the plate.

The Whitecaps would add a run in the 9th on a throwing error by Pineda (2B) and then end the game a 1/2 inning later when catcher Buddy Munroe (Florida) grounded into a double play. Raynor, Pineda, Rowe and Kipp Shutz (Indiana) all had 2 hits in the game for the Gatemen.
