07/19/08 – Best Offensive Game of the Season For Wareham – Defeat Hyannis for Third Time this Week
LHP Matt Bashore Picked up his first win of the season as a Gatemen starting pitcher but it was the offense the “stole the show” as the Gatemen scored 13 runs and defeated the Hyannis Mets for the third time this week and the second time in two nights 13-2 at McKeon Park.
The offense was highlighted by a couple of homeruns. The first, a 2 run homer by OF Connor Rowe (Texas) who hit an opposite field blast that broke the game open and gave Wareham a 6-2 lead. The other homerun was a Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge) 3 run blast in the 9th innnig.
The Gatemen scored 4 runs in the top of the first inning to give Bashore a nice cushion; including rbi hits by Jake Lemmerman (Duke) and Blake Dean (LSU), who drove home a run on a sacrafice fly. This allowed Bashore to cruise through 6 innings; allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out an impressive 10 batters. Jimmy Saris (Georgetown) and Austin Graham (Alabama) closed out the final 3 innings from the bullpen.
There were many offensive stars for the Gatemen on the evening. Shea Vucinich (Washington State) went 3 for 5 and an rbi, Ryan Pineda went 2 for 4 with 4 rbi and 2 runs scored, Jake Lemmerman also went 2 for 4 to go along with 2 rbi and both Aaron Baker (Oklahoma) and Cole Leonida (Georgia Tech) collected 2 hits. In total, Wareham had 15 hits, 11 rbi and left 11 on base.
The Gatemen move to 11-19-1 on the season and will try to keep the winning streak going in a 5:00pm, Sunday evening game vs. the Falmouth Commodores. CCBL All-Star Alternate Max Perlman (Harvard) will start for Wareham.
