06/26/08 – Walk-off Hit Caps Off Harwich Comeback
Catcher Tommy Medica (Santa Clara) turned down an invitation from Team-USA and in his first start on the Cape, his walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th inning capped off a 6-5 comeback victory over the Wareham Gatemen. The Gatemen led this game 5-1 after 4 and 1/2 innings and looked to be cruising towards their 3rd victory of the season. However, Harwich scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game on 4 hits and one passed ball.
The Gatmen put 4 runs on the board in the 4th; highlighted by a Kipp Shutz (Indiana) 2-run double, a Buddy Munroe (Florida) single and a sacrafice fly by first baseman Aaron Baker (Oklahoma). In the 5th, Ryan Pineda (Cal-State Northridge) hit Wareham’s first homer of the season to give the Gatemen a 5-1 lead before Harwich began their comeback.
Sean Black (Seton Hall) was masterful in relief for the Mariners; pitching 5 innings and allowing only one hit to support the Harwich comeback. Wareham starter Dallas Keuchel (Arkansas)pitched 7 innings and gave up 3 earned runs. Indiana pitcher Matt Bashore made his first appearance of the season in relief and picked up the loss for Wareham.
