Two Games On Tap Today at Spillane Field as Gatemen Look to Clinch Playoff Spot

WAREHAM, MA: A great day of baseball is scheduled today at Spillane Field as the Wareham Gatemen will play the Falmouth Commodores at 2:00pm and then welcome the Chatham Anglers for the second game that will start at 7:00pm.

The Gatemen are trying to clinch their third straight playoff berth and twenty-seventh overall since 1976. Wareham has made it to the divisional championship round each of the last two seasons.

The Gatemen sit in 3rd place in the Western Division with 5 games remaining. They are just 2 points ahead of fourth place Bourne and four points ahead of last place Hyannis. The top 4 teams in east division qualify for the playoffs where best of three series are played in the first round, division championships and CCBL Championship Series.

Hyannis has just 4 games remaining and can achieve a maximum of 38 points. The Gatemen have 5 games remaining and can finish with as many as 44 points. If the Gatemen reach the 38 point level, they can do now worse than tying the Harborhawks and would win a tie-breaker since they won the regular season series 4-2. Consequently, any combination of Gatemen wins and Harborhawks losses that equals two means that Wareham heads to the 2012 CCBL Playoffs.

The Gatemen, of course, would like to improve their position as they sit just 4 points behind the Falmouth Commodores who sit currently in second place behind defending CCBL Champion Cotuit; who has already clinched the top spot in the Western Division.

Come on out to Spillane Field to help push the Gatemen towards the playoffs! If you can’t make it down to the game, tune in to our live broadcast right here at
