Tom Gay Named CCBL Executive of the Year

CHATHAM, MA: Wareham Gatemen President and General Manager Tom Gay was presented with the Dick Sullivan Executive of the Year Award prior to the CCBL Hall of Fame induction ceremonies at the Chatham Bars Inn on November 10th; capping one of the best seasons in Wareham Gatemen history.

The 2012 Wareham Gatemen won perhaps the most exciting CCBL Championship in history in a dramatic, come from behind, extra innings victory over Yarmouth-Dennis to capture the franchise’s 7th championship. In a season that featured Gatemen Tyler Horan (Virginia Tech) breaking the single season homerun record and top New England Pro Prospect Award as well as the franchise being honored with the prestigious Commissioner’s Cup, Mr. Gay’s award adds to the 2012 Gatemen Trophy case.

Tom has been involved with the Gatemen since 1997 when he and his wife Sheri volunteered as a host family. Prior to that, he was a coach and president of the Gateway Babe Ruth League and Commissioner of the South Coast Baseball Alliance. In 2006, Tom was named an assistant GM for the Gatemen before stepping in as President and GM in 2009 – filling the rather large shoes of CCBL Hall of Famer John Wylde.

In his time as GM, the Gatemen have won a CCBL Championship, made 4 consecutive playoff appearances, 3 division finals appearances, have been honored with two Commissioner’s Cups.
