ORLEANS, MA: Jeff Reynolds (Harvard), hitless on the season coming into the game, went 4 for 4 with an rbi to help lift the Wareham Gatemen to a 3-0 win over the Orleans Firebirds at Eldredge Park.
Four Wareham pitchers combined to one hit Orleans as theGatemen beat the Firebirds 3-0 Thursday night in Hyannis.
StarterJustin Amlung (Louisville) tossed 6 strong innings allowing just one hit while striking out four. After some trouble Tuesday night against Cotuit, the Gatemen bullpen was lights out as Brent Suter (Harvard), Dillon Newman (Baylor), and Konnor Wade (Arizona) each pitched scoreless hitless innings to shut the door on the Firebirds.
The Gatemen broke the ice in the third inning with a pair of runs. Jeff Reynolds (Harvard) singled to lead things off and eventually scored on a passed ball. Max Muncy (Baylor) followed with an RBI single up the middle which brought home John Field (Arizona) to make it two nothing Gatemen.
Those runs would be the only ones to cross the plate up until the ninth when Wareham tacked on an insurance run. Mott Hyde (Georgia Tech) doubled down the left field line to lead off the frame. Two outs later, Reynolds picked up his fourth hit of the game bringing home Reynolds with a single.
Wadepicked up the save with a perfect bottom of the ninth as the Gatemen picked up their first win against Orleans since the ’09 season.
The winmoved Wareham to 4-2 on the season. The Gatemen are back in action tonight at Spillane Field as they take on Harwich at 7 PM.
