Red Sox Show Why They have Best Record in League

WAREHAM, MA.   The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox defeated the Wareham Gatemen 8-3.  In a match-up of CCBL All-Star pitchers Jack Armstrong (Vanderbilt) and Chris Sale (Florida Gulf Coast), the Eastern Division leading Red Sox proved too much for the Western Division leaders.

The Gatemen started off the game impressively by taking a 2-0 lead after one inning when George Springer (UCONN) delievered a 2 rbi single.  Armstrong would hold the lead until the YD half of the third inning when the Red Sox scored three times and took a 3-2 lead.  He was removed from the game after 3 innings.  Red Sox starter Chris Sale lasted only 5 innings and his replacement, Drew Hayes (Vanderbilt), was greeted with a double by Zach Wilson (Arizona State) to lead off the 6th.

Wilson scored and tied the game 3-3 on a Ryan Pineda (Cal State Northridge) double-play ground out; giving the Gatemen a late inning chance to win the game.  However, YD would score one run in the 8th and 4 more in the 9th to put the game out of reach.  Bruce Kern (St. John’s) gave Wareham a terrific relief effort; going 3 scoreless innings to keep Wareham alive.  Jordan Swagerty (Arizona State) ended up taking the loss for Wareham.

Zach Wilson finished with 2 hits in the game to lead the Wareham offense.  The loss drops Wareham to a 2nd place tie with Cotuit in the Western Division; one point behind first place Bourne.  The Gatemen will play the Hyannis Mets on Wednesday night at McKeon Park.  Blake Monar (Indiana) is the expected starting pitcher.  Tune into www.hyannismets.org to watch the live broadcast.  The Gatemen are 5-0 vs.  the Mets this season.

YD maintains a big lead in the CCBL Eastern Division; with 49 points; 10 ahead of second place Orleans.
