Wareham (12-10-1) vs. Cotuit (7-16)
Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Ethan Small (1-0, 2.07 ERA), LHP; COTUIT – Colton Hock (0-3, 4.50 ERA), RHP
Preview: Following a Thursday that saw the Gatemen travel to Fenway Park for the Cape Cod Baseball League workout, Wareham will travel to Cotuit on Friday trying to snap a two game losing streak. The two teams have met three times so far this season, with the Gatemen having taken two of those contests both at Spillane Field. In Wareham’s only trip to Lowell Park this summer, they faced an offensive ambush from the Kettleers, getting down 7-2 at one before ultimately falling 7-6. Ethan Small makes his first start for Wareham this summer, as his four previous outings have all been out of the bullpen. Small, from Mississippi State, has made one appearance against Cotuit, which came back on July 2nd. In that outing Small went four shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out two. On the year, Small is 1-0 with a 2.07 ERA scattering seven hits in 8.2 innings.
Opposing Small will be Colton Hock, a right-hander out of Stanford whose last start came against the Gatemen on July 2nd. Over the course of six innings in that start Hock let up nine hits but just two runs, striking out two and walking two. Hock in total so far this season is 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA, allowing 26 base runners in 16 innings. He contains a four-seam fastball that ranges between 90-93, a Mike Mussina like knuckle curveball, and a hard 12-6 curveball in his pitching repertoire.
