Preview: The Gatemen opened up their 2016 season with a bang on Friday afternoon, defeating the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox 6-3 behind five solid innings out of Jake Fishman. On Sunday, the Gatemen will turn to Jake Walters as they try to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Walters, a rising junior at Alabama, had a terrific season for the Crimson Tide making 15 starts and pitching to the tune of a 2.67 ERA. In 84.1 innings, Walters struck out 84 hitters largely using his low 90s fastball. Cotuit, meanwhile, fell to Harwich 8-3 on opening day and will call on Matt Ladrech to try and pick up their first win of the year. Ladrech, out of Cal, has traditionally pitched to contact, striking out just 20 in 58.2 innings. In 2016, he went 3-4 with a 4.30 ERA
