Preview: Walters looks to get back on track versus Chatham

Wareham (12-9-1) vs. Chatham (10-12)

Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Jake Walters (1-1, 4.10 ERA), RHP; CHATHAM – Nick Meservey (1-0, 0.00 ERA), LHP

Preview: Despite falling for the first time in four games yesterday, the Gatemen still wake up on Wednesday morning in first place in the Western Division as Bourne fell to Harwich last night, 4-2. All game long on Tuesday night, Wareham was bitten by unforced errors. Four Hyannis runs were able to cross the plate without the benefit of a hit, including one courtesy of a bases loaded walk and another following a passed ball. The Gatemen will look to turn things around quickly when they head to Chatham to take on an Anglers team that has struggled mightily defensively. Currently, the Anglers rank last in the Cape Cod Baseball League in fielding percentage (.955) and have committed more errors than any other team (38). Jake Walters gets the ball for Wareham, making his fifth start this summer. Walters had avoided giving more than three runs in any outing until his last start back on July 1st against Cotuit, when he let up six runs (three earned) on six hits and only struck out two. Overall, Walters is 1-1 with a 4.10 ERA, surrendering 16 hits in 15.1 innings.

The Gatemen offense, meanwhile, will face a familiar foe when they go up against Chatham starter Nick Meservey. Meservey pitched when these two teams met back on June 20th and picked up the win. The left-hander out of Seattle went 3.2 innings, did not allow an earned run, and scattered just two hits. He features a four-seam fastball, as a well as a slider.

Game Time: 7:00pm, Veterans Field, Chatham
