Wareham (12-11-3) vs. Hyannis (11-15)
Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Jeff Bain (0-1, 4.50 ERA), RHP; HYANNIS – Mac Sceroler (0-3, 8.37 ERA), RHP
Preview: Wareham had an off day on Monday, and quite frankly it could not have come at a better time. In their last five games, the Gatemen are 0-3-2 and have scored more than three runs only once during that span. Despite their recent skid, Wareham still enters Tuesday in second place in the West Division, five points behind Falmouth and two points ahead of Bourne. On Tuesday evening, the Gatemen travel to Hyannis to take on a Harbor Hawks team that so far this season has had their number. The Harbor Hawks, even with their overall record at 11-15, are 3-1 against the Gatemen this season, keeping Wareham to four runs or less in all four contests. Jeff Bain makes his second straight start against Hyannis, with his last one coming back on July 5. In that outing, Bain took the loss gong four innings, surrendering two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out two.
Mac Sceroler makes his final outing for the Harbor Hawks this Cape Cod Baseball League season on Tuesday, and so far for Sceroler it has been a bit of a rough go. Over the course of five starts, Sceroler is 0-3 with an 8.37 ERA, giving up 30 hits in 19.1 innings pitched. Still, the right-hander out of Southeastern Louisiana has shown potential at times this summer. Most notably, Sceroler threw five innings of shutout baseball against Harwich back on June 17. His last start came against the Gatemen back on July 5, where he went 5.1 innings, scattered four hits, gave up two earned runs, and struck out four.
News & Notes: With another base hit on Sunday, Joey Bart is now 16 for his last 31 dating back to June 2
. Hyannis’ Zach Rutherford is currently third in the West Division in batting average (.317) and second in home runs (3)
