Preview: Gatemen look to sweep season series against Bourne in preparation for postseason

Bourne (20-20-2) vs. Wareham (23-15-4)

Probable Starting Pitchers: BOURNE – Doug Norman (1-1, 1.55 ERA), RHP; WAREHAM– Hogan Harris (1-0, 5.70 ERA), LHP

Preview: In what is the Gatemen’s last regular season home game, they will host an opponent who will be back just three days later. Bourne clinched the third spot in the Western Division yesterday, guaranteeing that they will take on Wareham in the first round of the Cape Cod Baseball League playoffs starting Friday evening. By and large, Wareham has had their share of success against the Braves in 2016, going 4-0-1 in five games with the tie coming after the Gatemen surrendered two runs in the bottom of the ninth at Doran Park back on June 23. Hogan Harris, who just arrived back following a week away from the team, makes his fourth start of the season. Harris, who has not pitched since July 21, is 1-0 with an ERA of 5.70. He has struck out 15 batters in 11.2 innings, while walking four. The left-hander out of Louisiana Lafayette has faced Bourne once so far this year, going 2.1 innings and giving up one run on three hits in a 6-3 Gatemen win.

Doug Norman, out of LSU, gets the ball for Bourne looking to stifle the Gatemen for the second time this season. In the two’s most recent matchup on July 20, Norman was nearly unhittable going four innings without allowing an earned run, scattering just two hits, walking two, and striking out five. That has been the norm this season for Norman, who comes into today’s outing supporting a 1.55 ERA over 17.1 innings of work. The right-hander features a fastball that hovers between 92-94 miles per hour, a two-seam fastball, a slider, and a change-up.

News & Notes:

. Cole Freeman sits atop the leaderboards in batting average (.378), 16 points ahead of Ernie Clement (.362)

. Norman is making his third straight start for the Braves after coming out of the bullpen for his first five outings

. Joey Bart smashed his second home run of the year last night, helping him join Freeman as the only two Gatemen hitting above .300

. Bart, Gavin Sheets, Joey Bartosic, and Alex Destino are all expected to take Tuesday evening off in preparation for the playoffs
