Preview: Gatemen look to sweep home and home series versus Bourne

Bourne (11-8-1) vs. Warheam (11-8-1)

Probable Starting Pitchers: BOURNE – Michael Dibrell (2-0, 2.93 ERA), RHP; WAREHAM – Zachary Pop (0-2, 5.25 ERA), RHP

Preview: Due to some spectacular defense by Cole Freeman, and five innings of shutout baseball from the bullpen, Wareham pulled to within a tie of Bourne atop the Western division with a 4-2 win over the Braves last night. Now, in the second half of these two team’s home-and-home series, the Gatemen will look to take sole possession of first place as they send Zachary Pop to the mound. Pop has made four appearances this Cape Cod Baseball League season, with his last coming back on June 29th versus Falmouth when he went four innings, surrendered four runs (two earned), gave up four hits, struck out three, and walked two. On the season Pop is 0-2 with a 5.25 ERA, striking out 12 in 12 innings.

The Braves, meanwhile, are looking for a little retribution and hope that Michael Dibrell – out of Kennesaw State – can put them back atop the standings in the West. This will be Dibrell’s fourth start this Cape Cod Baseball League season, with the first two coming for the Chatham Anglers. Dibrell’s lone start for the Braves came back on June 28 at Cotuit. In that start, Dibrell went 4.1 innings, let up three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out seven. A rising junior, Dibrell has a three-pitch mix – a fastball, a curveball, and a change-up.

News & Notes: Colton Shaver currently leads the Western division in both home runs (five) and RBIs (21)

. Bourne’s Jake Mangum now leads the West in hitting at .364, teammate Justin Yurchak is second at .362
