Preview: Gatemen look to ride last night’s win into showdown with Whitecaps

Wareham (7-6-1) vs. Brewster (8-6)

Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Brett Conine (0-1, 1.12 ERA), RHP; BREWSTER – Aaron Soto (2-0, 6.17 ERA), LHP

Preview: Wareham’s offense appeared to get back on track last night against Hyannis, as all nine starters in the Gatemen lineup came away with a base hit. The Gatemen will look to keep that momentum going when they head to Brewster to take on the Whitecaps for the second time this season. Brett Conine gets his third start of the year for Wareham and his first two have been remarkably similar. In both, Conine has gone four innings while giving up four hits and surrendering less than two earned runs.

The Whitecaps, meanwhile, will roll with Aaron Soto – a left-hander out of Tennessee. A rising junior, Soto has made two appearances so far this Cape Cod Baseball League season and despite not having his best stuff he finds himself at 2-0. Over two combined outings against Cotuit and Orleans, Soto has thrown 11.2 innings, given up eight earned runs, and 14 hits. This past spring, Soto had a very solid for the Volunteers letting up 54 hits in 62 innings en route to a 3.63 ERA in 17 appearances. He features a fastball around 90-91 miles per hour, and a sweeping curveball.

News & Notes: With two more hits yesterday, Joey Bartosic now leads the Gatemen in both hits (17) and runs scored (12)

. Colton Shaver has retaken the team lead in RBI’s with 12

. Ethan Small joined Jake Matthys yesterday as the only Gatemen pitchers to throw at least four innings of shutout baseball

Game Time: 5:00pm, Stony Brook Field, Brewster
