Hyannis (9-12) vs. Wareham (12-8-1)
Probable Starting Pitchers: HYANNIS – TBA; WAREHAM – Jeff Bain (0-1, 4.50 ERA), RHP
Preview: For the third time this year, the Gatemen are in the midst of a three game winning streak, as they improved to 6-3-1 in their last nine games with a 2-1 win over Bourne last night. With the win, Wareham took sole possession of first place in the Western Division. Without a doubt the most notable difference from Wareham over the past three days has been the command shown by the pitching staff. Wareham pitchers have walked just three batters in that span, while throwing 68-percent of their pitchers for strikes. Jeff Bain gets the start for the Gatemen versus Hyannis on Tuesday night, looking to build off his most impressive outing of the season. Back on June 28th, Bain threw four shutout innings versus Chatham, facing the minimum, surrendering just one hit, and striking out three.
Hyannis comes into Tuesday night’s contest on a bit of a high, as after losing two in a row, the Harbor Hawks responded by knocking off Yarmouth-Dennis, 8-5. Despite a relatively rough start to the season, the Harbor Hawks still come into Tuesday night with five guys hitting above .300 (Dan Busby, Chris Cullen, Ford Proctor, Jordan Rodgers, and Zach Rutherford). Recently, the Harbor Hawks have seen a bit of a power surge out their lineup, as they find themselves first in the league in doubles (41), tied for second in the league in triples (six), and second in home runs (13). All season, however, a pitching staff that has given up the second most earned runs in the league (95) while walking 66 hitters has bitten Hyannis.
News & Notes: Gunner Leger boosted his scoreless innings streak to begin the season up to 11 with three more shutout innings last night versus Bourne
. The Gatemen have picked up multi-hit performances out of the catchers spot in back-to-back games for the first time this season
. Hyannis’ Jordan Rodgers is now within 3 RBIs of Colton Shaver’s league leading total of 21
Game Time: 6:30pm, Spillane Field, Wareham
