Preview: Gatemen look to knock off first place Falmouth

Falmouth (12-10-2) vs. Wareham (12-10-3)

Probable Starting Pitchers: FALMOUTH – Brendan King (2-0, 3.70 ERA), RHP; WAREHAM – Zachary Pop (1-2, 4.23 ERA), RHP

Preview: The Gatemen saw their contest end in a tie for the second straight time on Saturday night, as behind a two out rally capped off by a bunt single by Robbie Metz, Wareham finished their game with Harwich knotted at three after 12 innings. On Sunday evening, Wareham will take on a Falmouth team that has been white hot as of late. The Commodores have won five consecutive games dating back to July 4th, propelling them into first place in the Western Division. One could say the Gatemen have the right trio of pitchers going on Sunday night to face off against the Commodores, as they are expected to send Zachary Pop, Gunner Leger, and Casey Mize to the mound. Pop, after a rough start, has seen his performance drastically improve over his last two starts. In that span, Pop has surrendered just three earned runs over nine innings, giving up eight hits, and striking out six. He has one outing against Falmouth this Cape Cod Baseball League season, which came back on June 29 where he went four innings, let up two earned runs, and gave up two earned runs.

Brendan King, who started against Wareham back on June 17th, gets the start for Falmouth. King went 4.2 innings in that start, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out eight. The right-hander out of Holy Cross is 2-0 on the year, with a 3.70 ERA, striking out 23 in 17 innings of work. He throws a fastball that sits in the low 90s, a changeup that typically moves in on right-handers, and a curveball that he likes to throw down and in to lefties.
