Wareham (12-10-2) vs. Harwich (16-8)
Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Brett Conine (0-1, 3.37 ERA), RHP; HARWICH – Patrick Naughton (1-0, 2.90 ERA), LHP
Preview: For the second straight game, the Gatemen saw a late lead slip away as they tied Cotuit 3-3 in 10 innings on Friday evening. Wareham will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, but that will be no easy task as they travel to Harwich to take on a Mariners team that has been the class of the Cape Cod Baseball League thus far. The Mariners currently stand at 16-8 despite a 1-0 loss to Hyannis yesterday largely due to the fact that their staff ERA is the lowest in the league at 1.92. In total, Harwich has come away with six shutouts so far this summer. Wareham and Harwich have met just once so far this season, a 3-2 Gatemen win back on June 16th. Brett Conine gets the start for Wareham, his fifth of the summer. Over the course of his first four starts, Conine has been very consistent going four innings in each of them, letting up no more than three runs in any, and walking a total of six hitters.
Patrick Naughton, who has been lighting it up thus far, gets the start for the Mariners. Naughton, a rising junior out of Virginia Tech, is making his fifth start of the season. On the year, Naughton is 1-0 with a 2.90 ERA, striking out 26 hitters in 21.2 innings while walking a mere three. The left-hander has allowed more than two earned runs only once, back on June 11th against Hyannis when he surrendered four in five innings of work. Since then, Naughton has given up just three earned runs in 16.2 innings. He features a fastball, a breaking ball, while showcasing a rock-back delivery.
News & Notes: Patrick Naughton is currently third in the league in strikeouts with 26, teammate Hunter Williams is just ahead of him with 27
. Ernie Clement is second in the league in batting average, hitting .367
. Colton Shaver still holds the league lead in RBIs with 22, four ahead Jordan Rodgers from Hyannis
