Wareham (13-14-3) vs. Orleans (15-14)
Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Zachary Pop (1-3, 3.85 ERA), RHP; ORLEANS – Joe Ryan (2-0, 0.75 ERA), RHP
Preview: The Gatemen had a walk-off win within their grasps on Sunday night, but let a golden opportunity slip away in the bottom of the ninth, allowing Brewster to come away with a 5-2, 10 inning victory. Wareham will try and get back to .500 on Sunday when they head to Orleans to take on the Firebirds. Orleans, just like the Gatemen, has been in a bit of a funk as of late, going just 3-6-1 over their last 10. Zachary Pop makes his fifth start of the season for Wareham, and thus far the record does not match Pop’s overall effectiveness. Pop has yet to give up more than three earned runs in any outing this season, and has surrendered two runs or less in five of his six appearances.
Joe Ryan gets the start for the Firebirds. Ryan has been nothing short of dominant in his five starts this Cape Cod Baseball League season, pitching to the tune of a 0.75 ERA over 24 innings, striking out 21, giving up 22 hits, and walking seven. His most impressive start was his most recent where he scattered just two hits through five shutout innings against Hyannis. A rising junior out of Cal State Northridge, Ryan displays a fastball in the low 90s, a sweeping breaking pitch, and a change-up.
News & Notes: Orleans’ Brian Miller is currently fourth on the Cape in batting average hitting .330
. Orleans starter Joe Ryan is currently second on the Cape amongst pitchers who qualify with a 0.75 ERA
. The Gatemen and Orleans have split the two head-to-head meetings thus far
