Preview: Gatemen look to bounce back against Harwich

Wareham (3-2) vs. Harwich (5-0)

Probable Starting Pitchers: WAREHAM – Gunner Leger (0-0, ERA –), LHP; Harwich – Peter Solomon (0-0, 0.00 ERA), RHP

Preview: The Gatemen were stunned last night in Orleans when the Firebirds scored seven runs in the eighth inning – all with two outs – to come from behind to beat Wareham 11-7. There will be little time for an emotional letdown, however, as the Gatemen travel to Harwich to take on a Mariners team that is off to a scorching start in 2016. Gunner Leger, out of Louisiana Lafayette, gets the ball for the Gatemen on Thursday night. Leger, a rising junior, had a standout year for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Over the course of 16 starts, Leger went 7-3 with a 2.26 ERA while scattering just 71 hits in 91.2 innings. The six-foot, three-inch left-hander throws a low-90s four-seam fastball as well as a curveball and circle change up.

On the other side, the Mariners will look to improve to 6-0 on the year and will hand the ball over to Peter Solomon to lead the way. Solomon has appeared in one game for Harwich in 2016, a two-inning stint back on June 10th versus Cotuit in which he faced the minimum and struck out a batter. A rising junior out of Notre Dame, Solomon went 3-6 for the Fighting Irish during the 2016 College Baseball season, pitching to the tune of a 4.68 ERA. The one downside in Solomon’s season was the amount of walks handed out, as Solomon handed out 42 free passes over 57.2 innings of work. While known for his low-to-mid 90’s fastball velocity, Solomon also possesses a 12-6 curveball.

Game Time: 6:30pm, Whitehosue Field, Harwich
