Preview: Gatemen look to bounce back against Brewster

Brewster (2-1) vs. Wareham (2-1)

Probable Starting Pitchers: BREWSTER – Ryan Feltner (0-0, ERA –), RHP; WAREHAM – Anthony Herron (0-0, ERA –), RHP

Preview: The Gatemen found themselves on the short end of a decision for the first time this season yesterday, and will give the ball to Anthony Herron in an attempt to quickly bounce back. The New York Mets in the 34th round selected Herron, out of Jefferson Community College, in last week’s draft. Herron, a hard throwing right-hander, features a four-seam fastball that hovers around 93-94 miles per hour, as well as a curveball and a splitter. During the spring season, Herron went 8-2 with a 2.97 ERA for the Vikings. He posted ridiculous strike out numbers, fanning 130 in 75.2 innings, largely off his split-finger.

Brewster comes into this contest also at 2-1 after defeating Chatham yesterday 14-6 for their second straight win. The Whitecaps have been an offensive powerhouse so far this year, hitting .346 as a team with four home runs and 26 RBIs. One downside for Brewster at the plate has been the amount of strikeouts, as they have struck out 25 times in their first three games. Looking for their third straight win, the Whitecaps will turn to Ryan Feltner out of Ohio State University. Feltner, a rising sophomore, went 3-4 with a 4.06 ERA for the Buckeyes while striking out 61 in 68.2 innings. He features a mid-90s fastball as well as a 12-6 curveball and a circle changeup.

Game Time: 6:30pm, Spillane Field, Wareham High School
