Preview: Gatemen look for fourth straight win as they take on Falmouth

Falmouth (8-8) vs. Wareham (9-6-1)

Probable Starting Pitchers: FALMOUTH – Jake Bird (1-1, 2.31 ERA), RHP; WAREHAM – Zachary Pop (0-1, 5.62 ERA), RHP

Preview: Sure enough, as soon as the Gatemen offense appears to have hit its stride, the pitching staff has followed suit. Wareham received without a doubt its top pitching performance of the season last night as Jeff Bain, Nick Sprengel, Ryan Selmer, and Christian Taugner combined to throw two-hit ball over nine shutout innings en route to a 1-0 Gatemen win over Chatham. The Gatemen staff will look to improve on that stellar outing when they send Zachary Pop (Kentucky) to the mound on Wednesday evening versus Falmouth. Pop has three appearances so far this Cape Cod Baseball League season that span eight innings. Over those eight innings Pop has a 5.62 ERA, striking out nine and walking three.

Falmouth is trying to win their second game against Wareham this season and is asking Jake Bird to get the job done. Bird, out of UCLA, is making his third start of the year and over his first two, Bird has proven to be pretty impressive. Through those two starts Bird has given up just five hits in 11.2 inning, striking out nine and pitching to the tune of a 2.31 ERA. During his sophomore season at UCLA, Bird went 1-6 with a 6.36 ERA striking out 22 in 46.2 innings. He possesses a fastball that reaches the low 90s as well a curveball.

Game Time: 6:30pm, Spillane Field, Wareham
