Chatham (4-5) vs. Wareham (6-3)
Probable Starting Pitchers: CHATHAM – James Karinchak (0-0, — ERA), RHP; WAREHAM – Brett Conine (0-0, 2.25 ERA), RHP
Preview: Wareham found themselves in their sixth one run game of the season already last night as they bested Orleans 6-5 behind Ethan Small’s big time performance out of the bullpen. On Monday, the Gatemen will look to improve to 5-0 at home when they host the Chatham Anglers. Brett Conine out of Cal State Fullerton gets his second start of the season for Wareham. Conine went four innings in his first start of the year against Orleans, giving up four hits on one earned run while striking out three and walking only one. The most impressive aspect of Conine’s first start, however, was his fastball command as 27 of the 38 fastballs he threw were in the zone.
The Gatemen offense may be facing their toughest test on Monday when they go up against Northeast Conference pitcher of the year, and Chatham starter, James Karinchak. Karinchak had a stellar spring for the Bryant Bulldogs, going 12-2 with a 2.04 ERA. In 88.1 innings, Karinchak struck out a remarkable 104 hitters while walking only 39. His fastball usually hovers around 93-94 miles per hour while his 12-6 curveball consistently sits around the mid-to-upper 70s. This will be Karinchak’s first appearance this Cape Cod Baseball League season.
