WAREHAM, MA: CT Bradford’s (Mississippi State) rbi triple in the 5th inning resulted in the only run of the game in this pitcher’s duel at Spillane Fiels as the Wareham Gatemen held on to defeat the Cotuit Kettleers 1-0.
Bradford’s clutch hitting andlights out pitching helped the Gatemen snap a 3 game losing streak with a 1-0 win over defending CCBL champion Cotuit. Bradford’s two out triple scored Ty Ross (LSU) in the bottom of the 5th for the game’s only run.
Meanwhile, Gatemen starter Josh Turley (Baylor) tossed 5 and 2/3 brilliant innings allowing just three hits while striking out four. Turley tossed 3 up 3 down frames in both the 2nd and the 5th, but he ran into his only jam in the 6th. The Kettleers loaded the bases with two down, and the Gatemen went to the bullpen. Daniel Feehan answered the call with a 5 pitch strike out to preserve Wareham’s 1-0 lead.
Barret Astin (Arkansas) followed with two scoreless innings allowing just a lone base runner via the walk. Clinging to that slim lead in the 9th, Wareham went with closer Konnor Wade (Arizona). Wade tossed a 3 up 3 down final frame to seal the win for the Gatemen.
The win didn’t come easy for the Gatemen. Cotuit starter Chris Beck (Georgia Southern) allowed just the one run on 3 hits in 6 and 2/3 innings while striking out 6 Gatemen, but he’s saddled with the tough luck loss.
The Gatemen improve to 6-7 on the season while Cotuit falls to 4-8-1. Wareham’s back in action Sunday at Brewster at 5 PM.
