Pfisterer Dominates Braves – Gatemen Win 1-0

BOX SCORE

BOURNE, MA:  2009 CCBL All-Star Eric Pfisterer (Duke) picked up where he left off last year as he pitched 7 shutout innings to lead the Wareham Gatemen to a 1-0 victory over the Bourne Braves tonight.  Pfisterer helped the Gatemen bounce back from a tough extra inning loss in Hyannis the night before as Wareham improves to 2-1 on this young season.

The Gatemen scored what proved to be the only run they would need in the first inning.  After leading of the game with an infield hit, Adam McClain (Memphis) scored on a Chris Walker (Fordham) ground out; giving Wareham a 1-0 lead.  Bourne would never really threaten to score until the 7th.  With a runner on 2nd and two outs, Peter O’Brien (Bethune-Cookman) hit a drive to right field only to have the ball find the glove of a diving George Springer (UCONN).

Bourne starting pitcher Will Jolin  was also very good; going 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits, 1 run and striking out 2 Gatemen hitters.  Gatemen starter Eric Pfisterer dominated the Bourne hitters all night; never allowing a baserunner past 2nd base and allowing only 3 hits and striking out 9.  Closing the door on the Braves in an equally impressive pitching performance was Joseph Flynn (Franklin Pierce) from nearby Plymouth, MA.  Flynn pitched a perfect 8th and struck out 2 in the 9th to pick up a 2 inning save.

Offensively, Wareham was led by Adam McClain who went 2 for 4.  Chris Walker added another hit on the season and is hitting .375 during the early part of this 2010 season.  Bourne’s Mike Nemeth (UCONN) had 2 of the Braves’ 4 hits.

The Gatemen improve their record to 2-1 and the Braves are still looking for their first win; sitting at 0-3.

Wareham has an off day on Thursday before welcoming the Hyannis HarborHawks to Spillane Field on Friday night for a 7:00pm first pitch.  The Gatemen will be looking to rebound from their first match-up with Hyannis that resulted in a blown 3-0 9th inning lead that the HarborHawks eventually won in extra innings; 4-3.

If you can’t make it down to the ballpark on Friday, be sure to tune into our live broadcast beginning at 6:45pm.
