Perlman Gem Helps Lead Gatemen over Cardinals for First Win in ’08

Right Handed Pitcher Max Perlman (Harvard) pitched 7 shutout innings, striking out four and allowing only 3 hits, led Wareham to a 2-0 victory over the Orleans Cardinals in New Bedford, MA.  Playing their first of two “home” games in the City of New Bedford, the Gatemen scored a run in the first inning on an rbi single by Aaron Baker (Oklahoma).

Wareham’s second run came in the 4th inning on an rbi single by Steve Liddle (Vanderbilt); plating Brett Eibner (Arkansas).  Aside from the two timely singles by the Gatemen offense, the Orleans pitching was also impressive; allowing only 1 earned run, giving up only 3 hits and striking out 8 Gatemen.  Brad Gemberling (Princeton) pitched 5 innings and took the loss for the Cardinals.

Mike Seander (Duke) pitched a perfect 9th inning and picked up his first save.  Many Gatemen players saw their first action of the season including catcher Buddy Munroe (Florida), SS Jake Lemmerman (Duke), 3B Brandon May (Alabama) and DH Tom Stack-Babich.

The Gatemen will hit the road for the first time this season for a 5:00pm game against Western Division rival Cotuit.
