Pair of Gatemen Named National Players of Week

Incoming Gatemen and recently signed LHP Sean Newcomb (Hartford) and 2 year Gatemen INF Max Muncy (Baylor) were named Pitcher and Hitter of the Week respectively by the NCBWA. (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association)

Newcomb was honored for his no-hitter in the final game of Hartford’s series vs. Yale on March 25th. It was the first no-hitter for Hartford since they moved to Division I Baseball. A local product from neighboring Middleboro, MA, Newcomb struck out 10 batters in the 7 inning complete game victory. He was also named the America East’s Pitcher and Rookie of the Week. He is the 2nd America East Player to be recognized in as many weeks as Travis Janikowski (Stony Brook), the 2011 Cape Cod Baseball League MVP from the Bourne Braves, was named Hitter of the Week.

Max Muncy (Baylor), a Cape League All-Star for the Gatemen last season, hit .500 during the week; including two homeruns, a pair of doubles, 9 rbi and 7 runs scored. His week included a game-winning two run double against Kansas State University. Muncy, an Big 12 Player of the Year candidate, has helped Baylor to their best start in league history and is among the offensive leaders in the conference.

For the Gatemen last season, Max hit .282 and finished 3rd in the CCBL with 23 rbi a year after finishing 2nd in the league in rbi with 25 in 2010.
