06/27/08 – Offense Comes Alive as Wareham Cruises Past Chatham 9-3
The Wareham Gatemen scored in each of the first 4 innings last night at Veteran’s Field; giving starting pitcher Matt Way (Washington State) plenty of support on route to a 9-3 victory. The Gatemen offense was highlighted by 2 homeruns; a 2 run homer by Cole Leonida (Georgia Tech) in the third inning and a solo shot by Kipp Shutz (Indiana) in the 7th.

Way (1-2)was strong for the Gatemen on the mound; going 5 innings, striking out 8 and allowing 3 runs. The relief efforts of Jimmy Saris (Georgetown) and Josh Slaats (Hawaii) were also impressive as they combined to pitch 4 innings; not allowing a run, striking out 8 and giving up 5 hits. Together, the Gatemen pitchers struck out 16 Chatham A’s batters on the night.

All but one starter had at least one hit for the Gatemen offense; led by Leonida who had 3 hits and 2 rbi. Raynor Cambell and Aaron Baker had 2 hits apiece and Baker and Brett Eiber (Arkansa) each collected 2 rbi.

The Gatemen return to Spillane Field tonight to play the Harwich Mariners for the 3rd time in 4 days; sending Harvard pitcher Max Perlman to the mound. He will face Chris Manno (Duke) who will start for Harwich.
